Mercedes Schlapp's role in the role of White House Strategic Communications Advisor isn't easy. Mercedes Schlapp has a tough job in her role as the White House's Strategic Communications Advisor. She's working with an administration that has a president acting as its own communication director. Yet, through all of it Schlapp remains focused on the mission at hand, working closely with the White House's political affairs and legislative affairs teams and policy shops as in the larger communication operation in order to oversee policy implementations. In her current role, she has concentrated on various issues including school safety and opioids. Schlapp isn't involved with journalists often in her current position. The media attention she received during March was when she was named one of the contenders to succeed Hope Hicks. Mercedes Schlapp does not have a straightforward job as White House strategic communication adviser. The White House strategic communications adviser must deal numerous legal issues that could disrupt the messaging strategy of the administration as well as Cabinet secretaries that are embroiled in their own scandals. Schlapp has remained focused and on task, working in conjunction with White House teams in political issues, legislative affairs, and policy as well the larger communications team. Her focus has been on issues including the safety of schools, opioids, and infrastructure, along with trade. As of now the director does not interact much with journalists. However, she attracted a lot of attention in March when her name was floated as a possible replacement for Hope Hicks as communications director. There has been a lot of fighting. Schlapp's allies began fighting with Tony Sayegh over the media. After The Washington Examiner published a negative story about Sayegh, Schlapp said she called him to have a heart to heart.
